The wrong people to put in the news

While flipping through the channels looking for something decent to watch I caught a few seconds of an interview with Ashley Dupre, the hooker that former N.Y. Governor Spitzer was caught with. It was on one of those tabloid shows, Access Hollywood or the Insider. I didn't stick around to hear what Dupre was saying because I couldn't really care less but what did get to me was why do people still care about her? She had her moment back in 2008 and not for really doing much. Basically she became famous for being known as the hooker who brought Spitzer down. I thought the crazy media storm surrounding her would die down but she just won't disappear. She's even a relationship/sex columnist for the NewYork Post! Seriously, who takes advice from her. It's not even that profound. I don't have a problem with Dupre. I don't agree with her career choice but it's her life and none of my business. I do have a problem with the way the media throws women like her into the spotlight and the public just eats it up. She became a household name without doing anything to deserve it. And I blame the media and the people who can't get enough of stories like this. Give it a few more months and all of Tiger Woods's mistresses will become household names too. (If we can remember them all. At least Spitzer only had one...that we know of) And that's because the tabloids will keep them alive. I'm sure one of those girls, the one who appeared on VH1's shows, Tool Academy, will try to make the most of her 15 minutes. But for now the first mistress, Rachel Uchitel, is the one getting all the press now. I can only pray that the story will end soon. But stories like these give some impressionable (my nice way of saying dumb) girls a lesson in how to make a name for themselves without having something substantial to offer. If you wanna be known, spread 'em for someone famous.
